We loved working with this sweet family to make their backyard an extension of their living space. From the extended patio and outdoor fireplace to the high-tech irrigation system, these changes give the family a place to do life together for years to come.
Watch It Happen
We filmed the renovation as a time lapse, from the first day of excavation to the finished space. You can watch it on our Facebook page. It really does look like magic when you see weeks of work in a couple of minutes.
What Goes Into A Backyard Renovation
Behind the time lapse is a lot of work you never see in the finished photos:
- Grading and drainage so water runs away from the house and the new patio. In Central Illinois clay this step matters more than anything else; see drainage solutions for clay soil.
- A compacted gravel base under every paver patio so it stays flat through years of freezes and thaws.
- Irrigation lines installed before the lawn and beds go in, so nothing has to be dug up later.
- Sod or seed and plantings to finish the space and soften the hardscape.
Start With How You Want To Live Outside
The best outdoor spaces feel like part of the house: a place to cook, eat, sit by a fire and watch the kids play. The photos here are from other F&W outdoor living projects. When you’re ready, tell us about your yard and we’ll put together a free design quote.
Rather have a pro handle it? F&W has provided patios for Bloomington-Normal, Peoria, and Champaign-Urbana, Illinois properties since 1989. Call (309) 664-2666 or request a free quote.
