Our Tree & Shrub Care Program

Our tree and shrub program covers the whole season in three steps, so your trees and shrubs are fed and protected from spring to winter:

  1. Spring fertilizer to start the season. A spring feeding that includes systemic insect control, taken up by the plant to protect against early-season pests.
  2. Spring and summer insect and disease treatments. Targeted treatments that slow the spread of pests and disease, including bagworms on evergreens and Japanese beetles on ornamentals.
  3. Fall root zone fertilizer. Root zone feeding that protects trees through winter and prepares them for spring.

Pair the program with pruning and shrub and hedge trimming (below) for plants that look as good as they grow. More reading: protecting trees from insects and our pruning tips.

Shrub And Hedge Trimming

Overgrown shrubs hide windows, crowd walkways and turn woody and bare inside. Regular trimming keeps them dense, healthy and in proportion to your house. We shape:

  • Boxwoods, yews, junipers and arborvitae
  • Privacy hedges and foundation plantings
  • Flowering shrubs such as hydrangea, lilac, spirea and forsythia
  • Ornamental grasses and perennials, cut back each season

Timing matters. Spring-flowering shrubs are trimmed right after they bloom so you don’t cut off next year’s flowers. Most evergreens and hedges get their main shaping in late winter or early spring, with a light touch-up in early summer. We avoid heavy trimming after late summer so new growth can harden off before frost. Shrub trimming pairs naturally with mulch and bed maintenance.

Questions

Tree & Shrub Care FAQs

Straight answers about tree & shrub care in Central Illinois: pricing, timing and what to expect.

Why is tree and shrub care important?

Proper care supports healthy growth, catches insect and disease problems early, keeps plants looking good, and removes weak or damaged branches before they fall near your home or business.

What services are included in tree and shrub care?

Our tree and shrub care covers pruning and trimming, shrub and hedge shaping, fall root zone feeding, insect control for pests like bagworms and Japanese beetles, and disease management, all aimed at keeping plants healthy for the long term.

How often should trees and shrubs be trimmed?

Most shrubs and hedges look best with one main shaping a year plus a light touch-up in early summer. Most trees benefit from an inspection and pruning every one to three years, with young or storm-damaged trees sometimes needing more frequent attention.

When is the best time to trim shrubs in Central Illinois?

Trim spring-flowering shrubs such as lilac and forsythia right after they bloom. Most evergreens, hedges and summer-flowering shrubs get their main shaping in late winter or early spring. Avoid heavy trimming after late summer so new growth can harden off before frost.

Can tree care improve safety around my property?

Yes. Regular pruning removes weak or damaged branches before they fall, keeps limbs clear of the roof, driveway and walks, and improves a tree's overall structure.

How much does tree and shrub care cost in Bloomington and Central Illinois?

Tree trimming typically runs $150 to $700 per tree depending on size and access. Shrub and hedge trimming depends on the number and size of plants. We provide a free quote so you know the full cost before work starts.

What should I do if a tree is damaged after a storm?

Stay clear of the tree and any downed power lines, then call us for an assessment. We can prune broken and hanging limbs and let you know whether the tree can be saved.
