Transforming Outdoor Living Space: The Ekis Project

It’s amazing how the details transformed the outdoor living areas of the Ekis home. We love the way the textures of the materials complement one another, and the edging on the paths gives the whole property a welcoming, updated look. These spaces have become more usable and more beautiful for these wonderful clients.

Small Details, Big Difference

Most people notice the big features first: the patio, the fire pit, the plantings. What makes a project look finished is the detail work that ties it together:

  • Edging. A border course of pavers (a soldier or sailor course) along a walkway frames it and keeps the field pavers locked in place.
  • Complementary textures. Pairing smooth pavers with natural stone, or tumbled brick with crisp concrete, adds depth without looking busy.
  • Curves where people actually walk. Paths that follow natural foot traffic get used, and they soften a yard full of straight lines.
  • Clean bed lines. Crisp edges between lawn, mulch and stone make even simple landscaping look intentional.

Walkways Are Worth It

A paver walkway replaces worn grass paths and muddy shortcuts, connects the driveway, front door, patio and gate, and adds curb appeal you notice every time you come home. The photos here are from walkway and path projects F&W has installed across Central Illinois.
