On this project we added on to an existing covered patio to give our clients more space and function, taking a rather plain outdoor living area and making it a showpiece.
From Concrete Slab To Outdoor Room
The existing concrete now steps down to a curving brick patio extension. The varied colors of the brick add style and depth and give the installation an established look, as if it had always been part of the home. The curve softens the straight lines of the house and the original slab.
Two Gathering Areas Instead Of One
The added space creates two separate places to gather: one around a table for meals, and another around a beautifully finished fire pit with a partial bench wall. Fresh sod around the new patio finished the job, and the space was ready for this family to make some memories.
Extending An Existing Patio
If your patio feels too small, you usually don’t need to tear it out. A paver extension can tie into existing concrete with a step, a border or a change in material, which is often less expensive than starting over. Adding a fire pit or seat wall at the same time gives the new space a purpose. See our paver patio cost guide for typical budgets.
